This report examines the state of transnational organized crime in Sri Lanka. More specifically, it traces how geopolitical changes, particularly the end of the country’s civil war in 2009 and the destruction of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), have impacted the nature of criminal activity within Sri Lanka and in neighboring states. The text’s authors conclude that the problem of borderless crime has generally improved in the country, but the government – with the backing of other regimes in the region – needs to address a number of problems if it hopes to sustain this relatively good news story.
