This paper gives an outlook for Malaysia's 11th general election. It surveys the political landscape in Malaysia in terms of the key issues and parties contesting the 2004 general elections. The paper suggests that while many of the traditional strategies will continue to play an important role in the elections, several developments imply that in 1999 an important change may have taken place that will be reflected by a strengthened National Front coalition in the general elections. In the conclusion the author states that ideological differences between the parties will either have to be reconciled or compromised if alliances are to endure.
