This paper analyzes Norway’s post-Cold War role on the international scene. The first section of this paper addresses the question of how to approach Norwegian foreign policy analytically. In the second part, the authors point out the importance of consensus in Norwegian policy, and identify three basic positions in the Norwegian foreign policy discourse. The final part of this paper considers some fundamental experiences that have formed the Norwegian image of self in relation to the world.
