This paper analyzes the relationship between the European integration process and changing national security identities in Sweden and Norway. The aim of the paper is to compare developments in the Norwegian and the Swedish security identities in the 1990s and to evaluate the extent and scope of Europeanization in the two countries. The paper concludes that despite some obvious difference between the two countries’ security orientations, the national security discourses are rather similar. However, it argues that the development in Sweden presents a real change of identity whilst Norway adapted to external changes.
