This report analyzes civil society in Nicaragua as the product of developments over the last several decades. The author explains that the sphere of Nicaraguan civil society is dominated by a set of highly visible, professional and active NGOs. The report states that the fact that civil society is dominated by such NGOs, which are not membership-based, means that the issues of representation and accountability pose a key challenge for civil society in Nicaragua.
