This report analyzes the political situation in Cambodia. It examines the impact of the July 1998 elections on the political situation in the country. The paper outlines election preparations, the legislative framework and the registration process for political parties and voters. It further concentrates on the election environment, namely the influence of the opposition, election monitoring and hurdles, stemming from opposition boycott and incidents of impunity.
