This report examines the increasing competition for water in Central Asia. It gives an overview of regional water management, water quotas and barter agreements concentrating on the Syr-Darya and the Amu-Darya regions. It further discusses planned infrastructure projects to ensure water supply. The report argues that problems of increasing demand and declining supplies have been compounded by the failure of the region’s nations to work together.
