This paper discusses Iran’s policy toward Iraq and argues that the latter is the centerpiece of Iran’s regional strategy as the Iranian leadership believes that it provides Iran with a source of leverage over UK and US policies. The paper analyzes the call for federalism of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) as well as the SCIRI’s call for theocracy. The paper further outlines the collapse of the center ground in Iraqi politics and discusses setting a timetable for a US troop withdrawal. Other issues analyzed by the author are the Iranian regional strategy and the Kurdish issue.
