This paper discusses the diplomatic roles which the EU could play in helping to mitigate or resolve conflicts in the Middle East. The text begins by examining the EU's general approach to conflict and crisis management, then discusses why managing Turkey’s aspirations and balancing the interests of Iran and Saudi Arabia are prerequisites for bringing peace to the region, and finally examines how the EU could mediate between Tehran and Riyadh.
