This paper examines the main issues discussed at the April 2007 South American Energy Summit and the implications for regional integration. The author describes differences in attitudes toward regional energy policy among the participating states. The paper further discusses relations between South American states as well as their particular political or economic interests and individual ambitions for regional leadership.
