This paper discusses the 1999 NATO intervention in Kosovo and the reverberations from it in 2000 and 2001. The author provides an outlook on the possible long-term future of Kosovo and states that the international community continues to make mistakes in its approach to solving the problems of the province. The paper states that due to the ethnic volatility in the regions of Former Yugoslavia, the international peacekeepers in Kosovo will likely be needed there for decades to come, with no guarantee that the basis of lasting peace can be created by their presence.
