This report examines and makes recommendations for the permanent retention of the records of five international crime tribunals. It looks at the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Special Panels and Serious Crimes Unit in East Timor, and the internationalized courts and prosecutors in Kosovo. The author offers a conceptual framework for creating central international judicial archives under UN auspices and for standards to select, preserve and manage the records.
