This paper describes and analyzes the process of negotiating and drafting Iraq’s constitution in 2005 and points to lessons for the country and for future constitutional processes. The author argues that the deficiencies in the constitutional process are having an immediate and violent effect on the lives of Iraqis. The paper concludes by recommending strategies to improve the situation.
