This paper examines the effectiveness of Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRCs) in Sierra Leone. The author analyzes the contentious relationship among memory, healing and reconciliation and examines the purported therapeutic and conciliatory effects of TRCs. The paper concludes by offering recommendations for future TRCs.
