This paper discusses the political situation in Haiti, arguing that although Haiti's government and UN peacekeeping forces have made progress in improving the country's security situation, little has been done to alter the grim living conditions experienced by most citizens. The paper comments on the economic, security and democratic challenges, the president's policy and Haiti's importance for both the US and the UN. The paper concludes that the success of Haiti’s new government is vital to the US and the international community.
