This report examines the reasons for the successful outcome of the Aceh peace process, commenting on political factors, innovative civilian crisis management and implications for Indonesia and the region. The author concludes that the determination of both parties, considerable pressure from Aceh’s people and significant support from the international community helped ensure a solution to the 30-year armed conflict.
