This paper discusses chances and risks for India's foreign relations in the middle to long term. It weighs the advantages and disadvantages of integration into the existing, Western-style international order versus a strategy of autonomy and multipolarity. The paper provides an overview of India's relations with its neighborhood and addresses its policy toward certain core players, including China, East and West Asia, Russia, Central Asia and the US. The paper argues that India should preserve its independence of action and autonomy of decision-making and calls for a modification of the status quo in the existing framework of international relations.
