This paper describes how infra-state conflicts are closely linked to the city. The author explains how therefore such symbolic urban areas with concentrated bureaucratic organizations, common public assets and demographic resources can become severly impacted through domestic conflicts. The paper outlines how thus cities - and particularly Third World mega-cities - have become the main objective for warlords or violent political organizations such as the Revolutionary Unity Front in Sierra Leone or the Taliban in Afghanistan.
