This paper examines US operations in Afghanistan and Iraq: Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The paper argues that although US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s vision for transformation has allowed the US military to achieve certain objectives during the phase of war, it has failed to include post-conflict stabilization operations. The paper concludes by arguing that the unilateralist tendencies of the Bush administration, unless re-oriented, undermine the effectiveness of the ability to annihilate conventional and unconventional adversaries.
