This paper examines issues related to the security of Europe's energy supply in relations to Russia, commenting on doubts over Russia reliability. The paper discusses controversial steps of Russia's energy policy, including alleged re-nationalization, the development of Gazprom and independent gas producers and the use of energy as political leverage. The paper sheds light on European responses, analyzes the existing diversity of the EU's energy supply and highlights implications of an accelerated diversification policy. Finally, the paper identifies domestic European responses and calls for a coherent strategic plan for European energy security.
