This paper examines circumstances surrounding the potential debacle of the Economic Partnership Agreement and also suggests some "escape routes" for the Commission. The explores the tangible results from previous non-reciprocal market access and concerns over the lapsing of the WTO-waiver for the Cotonou Agreement. The paper further analyzes the shift toward bilateral free trade agreements and describes major challenges confronting African economies. To conclude, the author argues that the European Commission would be well advised to consider placing some alternatives on the table for the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries.
