This publication examines the political, economic and cultural relations between Europe and Latin America. According to the author, the two groups have developed an updated network of contacts and exchanges in tandem with the EU's role as a global player. The paper concludes that although the challenges of a shift in strategy are considerable, given the rather heterogeneous domestic panorama in the countries of South America, the EU will have to prepare its strategic action in a different context on the different fronts of political dialogue, development aid and trade.
