This working paper evaluates Europe's supply and energy networks and discusses the need for the EU to position itself and form a continental energy supply strategy. It discusses the ever-changing EU energy politics vis-à-vis Central Asia as a long-term supplier and the increasing oil and gas wealth within the context of energy nationalism in the post-Soviet era. The author concludes that if the EU does not act with unity of purpose, the individual member-states and energy companies will continue to operate based on their national and business interests without waiting to hear from Brussels.
