This working paper explores how Belgium has reacted to the growth of jihadi terrorism from its early signs in the 1980s until 2007. It analyzes the measures taken by the Belgian law enforcement apparatus since 9 September 2001 and assesses the country's specificities in combating jihadi terrorism. The author concludes that counterterrorism in Belgium has become much more efficient over the years thanks to the close collaboration established between the intelligence community and the police.
