This working paper lays out how the EU is doomed to loose its significant weight and influence in the world economy due to the rise of emerging powers. To illustrate this argument, the author specifically refers to trade policy and the geopolitics of the euro. He claims that only a Europe that is united and able to speak with one voice on the international economic stage will be able to preserve its influence. The author also defends the idea that Europe’s experience with economic integration is a good model for establishing the increasingly necessary rules of play for global economic governance
