This report looks at state and development of Afghanistan's media since the toppling of the Taliban regime, commenting on early successes and continuing instability. In particular, the paper addresses local media outlets, especially radio, the national government's communication with the citizenry and international broadcasters' presence. The authors argue that Afghanistan offers a positive example of media development yet also shows the inherent fragility of media in a post-conflict society.
