This paper explores the existing and potential role played by South Asia's skilled diaspora in their source economies, covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The paper looks at the nature of the South Asian diaspora, asks how this group has contributed to their home economies and assesses how diaspora linkages can be furthered through government as well as private sector initiatives. Among other findings the author argues that there is a lack of institutional structure and framework in the way the South Asian countries have tried to utilize their skilled diaspora resources.
