This issue focuses on the evolving security threats to South and Central Asia, which include the ongoing rivalry between the so-called Islamic State (IS) and al Qaeda. The featured articles examine 1) the growing global threat posed by IS; 2) the IS-al Qaeda rivalry in India; 3) the growing dangers posed by the insurgency in Kashmir; 4) the emergence, evolution and expansion of IS in Afghanistan; 5) the possibility of an Afghan peace under Taliban chief Haibatullah Akhundzada; and 6) the possible relocation of al Qaeda to Syria.
