Based on philosophical theories and observations, this publication provides an analysis of the characteristics of the post-truth phenomenon and its prominence. It closes with an alternative definition of post-truth as “a term denoting circumstances in which our ability to clarify the reality in order to understand it and in order to function within it on the basis of facts is weakening as a result of high-intensity interference by four peak waves: the information explosion and disruptive technology; the dwindling of faith in institutions and in ‘truthtellers’; undermining postmodernist ideas; and bitter political battles".
