This paper 1) looks at the UN’s efforts to resolve the conflicts that emerged in Libya, Syria and Yemen following the Arab uprisings of 2010-2011, and 2) identifies the mediation lessons the world body should have learned in five key areas: mandates; entry and consent; impartiality and inclusivity; strategizing; and leveraging.
