This report analyzes the evolution of coca crops in the Andean region and the criminal actors who drive cocaine trafficking from South America to Europe and the US. It comments on the coca crops and cocaine production in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia and identifies the actors involved and the routes used for drug trafficking from the production to the consumption regions. The paper argues that the international community urgently needs to acknowledge mistakes of its former anti-drug strategy and adopt fundamental policy improvements.
