This publication addresses the possible NATO decision on FYROM/Republic of Macedonia membership. The author explains that in both Greece and FYROM/Republic of Macedonia, the political elites have a strong interest in the continuation of the status quo over the name issue. He argues that these views are not necessarily irresponsible, given the need for stability in the situation that follows Kosovo's independence and Macedonia's key role as a buffer territory. According to the author, an appropriate EU policy is more important than NATO membership.
