This report assesses the outlook for the elections to Nepal's Constituent Assembly (CA) scheduled on 10 April 2008. It reviews the run up to the elections regarding the parties and the political environment, outlines the basic features of the electoral system and discusses the likely developments in the aftermath. Furthermore, the paper identifies issues and challenges important for Nepal's peaceful development. It argues that even successful elections will only mark the opening of the next stage in the country's peace process.
