This commentary discusses the impact the Trump administration could have on trade and European security. The text’s authors contend that Trump's policies – if implemented – could lead to 1) increased unemployment in Europe, since the continent is more vulnerable to global trade than the US; 2) greater defense spending by European states; and 3) an emboldening of populist parties in Europe, which would further weaken the EU.
