This paper highlights ISS’ interactive public and election violence-monitoring project, which is designed to provide a more comprehensive analysis of violent behavior in South Africa. In addition to presenting the project’s preliminary findings, the paper identifies different ways that the country can ameliorate the triggers and root causes of violence.
