This bulletin briefly reviews 1) Australia’s defense policy and military modernization plans, and 2) how the Trump administration may sabotage the assumptions that underpin them. In response, Australia could pursue a more independent foreign and defense policy from the US, but it would most likely require Canberra to adopt a softer approach towards China.
