This paper looks at the violent domestic protests that took place in the summer of 2016 in Armenian. The text’s author specifically examines 1) the reasons for the protests and who was involved; 2) how the government and opposition political parties reacted to the demonstrations, after being caught off guard; and 3) the region-wide nature of the public’s political and socio-economic discontent, which could trigger similar protests in other post-Soviet states.
