This paper maps out Italy’s interests in the forthcoming Brexit negotiations. The text’s authors explain that in recent years growing numbers of young people have left the country in search of better paid and more rewarding jobs elsewhere in the EU. For this reason, they believe that the Italian government will mount a strong defense of existing internal market rules and champion them as an inseparable set of principles. This is not to say that Italy won't be helpful in the forthcoming Brexit talks, but there will be strict limits to its flexibility and the concessions it’s willing to make, particularly in the case of labor mobility.
