This paper examines Israel’s response to the 2017 Temple Mount crisis and what lessons the country should learn from this situation to enhance its crisis prevention policies. Key insights outlined by the author include 1) that tensions emerged between the different objectives pursued by Israel in its approach to the crisis, which undermined its response; 2) that Israel can improve its response to future crises by developing an intervention mechanism with Egypt and the US; and 3) that Israel could help manage future tensions over the Temple Mount by creating tools to administer it in partnership with Jordan and East Jerusalem’s Arab population.
