This paper looks at the best practices the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has learned while implementing the African Union’s Peace and Security Architecture (ASPA). The text particularly focuses on the Community’s attempts to sustain peace through conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts. It concludes that regional economic communities such as ECOWAS can play a significant role in implementing the ASPA, but they’ll have to surmount the funding and collaboration challenges they currently face.
