This report examines the influence Russia and the US exert on Georgia and the related interest divergences. The author describes that while Russia tries to preserve its control through aggression and pressure, the US chooses a more diplomatic approach. Therefore, Georgia welcomes the latter although Russian economic and military presence are still predominate in the country. The author asks if a new Georgian leader can handle this situation in the same fashion as the former President Eduard Shevardnadze has done.
