This paper addresses the problem of Russian military helicopter support in the mountains of southern Chechnya. The author discusses the local terrain, the state of the military helicopter park and the search for solutions to the helicopter issue. He concludes that the problems of helicopter support provide examples of the failure of command, pilot error and equipment failure of the Russian military aviation throughout both Russo-Chechen conflicts.
