This paper examines the reorganized structure, deployment and tasks of the Russian Federal Border Service (FPS) in Chechnya and Dagestan in the Southern Federal District. The author looks at the historical context, the federal program "State Border of the Russian Federation" 2003-2010 and the FPS Chechnya and the FPS Dagestan and Caspian Seaboard. He notes an improvement of the border situation between 2000 and 2008.
