This paper looks at the progress of the 2008 Beijing Olympics one year before their start. The author discusses technical, political and public relations aspects. He predicts a technically accomplished Olympic Games but identifies challenges regarding Taiwan’s participation in the Torch relay, environmental concerns and growing criticism of Chinese foreign and domestic policies by international NGOs.
