This report analyzes the situation between Iran and US in May 2006. The authors outline how Iranian oil resources could become a powerful weapon to respond to sanctions concerning its nuclear programs. They assess Iran’s options of exerting influence on its own oil production and trade as well as on the production of other oil producing countries. The report concludes that although oil would be a strong weapon against the US military threat, it is likely that Iran would only use it cautiously because of possible economic and political fallout.
