7 Feb 2008

This bulletin discusses the broader implications of the US decision on 4 February 2008 to join negotiations on investment and financial services with Brunei, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore - the so-called "P-4" group of countries. The author argues that by engaging with these countries, the US is gaining access to a regional trade architecture in an emerging and dynamic region of the world. The bulletin additionally discusses US bilateral efforts on trade with Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
