This bulletin examines the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) victory in the 2008 Cambodian parliamentary elections. It reviews the political landscape of Cambodia, the CPP's legacy and the role of entrenched corruption. The author argues that strong economic growth and windfall profits from oil and gas reserves continue to afford the CPP legitimacy, but limit the influence of opposition parties. The author forecasts that opposition parties' sway is likely to continue to diminish.
