This paper considers presidential politics in Russia. It examines Russian politics from the end of the Cold War, the extent of Putin's control over the central government, and the role of Gazprom - the Russian energy conglomerate. The author argues that Dmitry Medvedev is likely to become the country's next president. Moreover, he states that Russia's system of 'managed democracy' is likely to grow increasingly authoritarian.
