This paper assesses the state of the Russian aviation industry, both commercially and militarily. It additionally considers export opportunities for the Russian aviation industry. The author notes the country's commercial aviation industry is contracting and unlikely to recover quickly. The military sector is better positioned to prosper. Nevertheless, the author estimates the number of enterprises operating in the Russian aviation industry will decline from 300 to 220 or less.
