This paper reviews Russian foreign policy under President Vladimir Putin. It argues that Russia's role as an energy producer is prompting it to become increasingly assertive in international politics. Moreover, Moscow is seeking to enhance its position in parts of the post-Soviet space and elsewhere. These moves, as well as Russia's foreign policy in general, increasingly employ an anti-US tone that echoes the bipolar competition of the Cold War.
